A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck the Hatay province of Türkiye early Thursday morning, causing brief concern among local residents.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) of Türkiye released official data regarding the seismic activity. The tremors were centered in the Kirikhan district and occurred at approximately 06:10 local time. According to AFAD, the earthquake originated at a depth of 9 kilometers below the surface.
As of the latest reports, there have been no official statements regarding casualties or significant structural damage in the affected areas. Local authorities are continuing to monitor the situation to ensure public safety and assess any potential impact on infrastructure.
Hatay remains a seismically sensitive region following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck southern Türkiye in February 2023. Since then, the Turkish government and AFAD have intensified monitoring efforts and implemented comprehensive reconstruction projects across the province to enhance urban resilience against future seismic events.
