A 4.4 magnitude earthquake has struck the Kahramanmaras province in Turkey, according to reports from local authorities.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey (AFAD) confirmed the seismic event. According to the official statement, the epicenter of the 4.4 magnitude tremor was located in the Pazarcik district of Kahramanmaras.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 12.46 kilometers. As of now, there have been no official reports regarding casualties or structural damage in the affected area.
Turkey is situated in one of the world's most seismically active zones, lying on the Anatolian Plate, which is squeezed between the Eurasian, African, and Arabian plates. The Kahramanmaras region, in particular, has been the focus of significant international attention and disaster relief efforts following the devastating earthquakes that struck the region in February 2023, leading to heightened monitoring of seismic activity in the area.
