Air strikes carried out by Israel in southern Lebanon have resulted in several deaths and injuries, marking a significant escalation despite the recently brokered truce. Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), that the strikes targeted residential areas in the Saida and Bint Jbeil regions.
According to preliminary reports, at least three people, including two women, were killed, and 21 others sustained various injuries during the attacks. Israeli military aircraft reportedly launched massive strikes on residential settlements in the Saida district. In response to the increasing number of ceasefire violations, the Lebanese army command has urged citizens to postpone their return to villages and towns in the southern part of the country to ensure their safety.
The Operative Information Center-OMM further notes that in the Qunin settlement of the Bint Jbeil region, Israeli forces allegedly opened artillery and machine-gun fire on ambulances belonging to the Islamic Health Organization, resulting in further casualties. Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed to have launched rocket strikes against Israeli military infrastructure in the Karmiel settlement and reported the downing of an Israeli drone over Lebanese territory. The movement also stated it conducted drone attacks against Israeli troop concentrations.
The current escalation follows the commencement of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which officially came into effect at midnight. US President Donald Trump previously announced the declaration of the truce, aimed at halting the hostilities that have intensified over the past six weeks. During this period, Israeli operations against Iranian-backed Hezbollah have resulted in approximately 2,200 fatalities in Lebanon, highlighting the severe humanitarian impact of the ongoing regional conflict.
