The President stated that authorities have received intelligence regarding a security risk in the city of Cali, where the upcoming swearing-in ceremony for president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella is scheduled to take place on August 7.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Petro utilized his social media channels to alert the public, alleging that criminal groups involved in drug trafficking may be orchestrating terror attacks to destabilize the country and provoke a state of emergency. The President confirmed that intelligence reports indicate the presence of significant quantities of explosives in Cali, prompting an immediate and robust security response.
In response to the heightened threat level, security measures across the region have been significantly intensified. Authorities have announced that a large-scale security operation will be conducted in Cali to safeguard the inauguration proceedings. Official statements indicate that more than 11,000 police officers and military personnel will be deployed to ensure public safety during the event.
