Law enforcement authorities have seized over 45 kilograms of narcotics in the Khazar district of Baku, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The operation was reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing official sources within the ministry. During the targeted operation, officers detained 53-year-old Fariz Khalilov, who was identified as a suspect in the illicit drug trade.

Upon inspection of the vehicle driven by the suspect, police discovered 45 kilograms and 210 grams of marijuana. In his initial statement, Khalilov confessed that he had acquired the narcotics with the intention of distributing them to various locations throughout the capital.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and a court has ordered a pre-trial detention measure for the suspect. Investigations into the criminal network are currently ongoing.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan frequently conducts such operations as part of the state's broader strategy to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. These efforts are critical in maintaining public safety and curbing the illegal circulation of controlled substances within the country.
