A munitions explosion in the Kalbajar district has resulted in injuries to a civilian, Sarkhan Isgandarov, born in 1987. The incident occurred on July 21, 2026, while the Gazakh district resident was grazing livestock in the Zaylik village area.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), the victim was transported to the Ganja United Hospital at approximately 17:10 on the day of the incident.
The Management Union of Medical Territorial Units (TƏBİB) reported that the patient received necessary medical care for various bodily injuries. Following treatment, the individual signed a waiver and was discharged from the medical facility.
The Kalbajar District Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident.
In a joint statement, the Prosecutor General's Office, the MIA, and ANAMA have once again urged citizens to strictly adhere to safety regulations in liberated territories. Authorities emphasized the critical importance of paying attention to mine warning signs, avoiding contact with suspicious objects, refraining from entering unfamiliar areas, and respecting restricted zones marked by fencing.
Since the end of the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020, the presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance remains a significant threat in Azerbaijan's liberated territories. These areas were heavily mined during the nearly 30-year occupation, posing a continuous danger to civilians and reconstruction efforts. ANAMA continues its large-scale demining operations across the Garabagh and East Zangezur economic regions to ensure the safety of returning residents and the ongoing restoration projects.
