Two earthquakes were recorded in the Caspian Sea on Thursday morning, according to the Bureau of Earthquake Research of the Republican Seismic Survey Center under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the first seismic event occurred at 05:55 local time with a magnitude of 4.3. The earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 77 kilometers. A second tremor followed shortly after at 07:35 local time, registering a magnitude of 3.0 at a depth of 72 kilometers. These incidents follow a previous 3.1 magnitude earthquake recorded in the Caspian basin on April 4.
The Caspian Sea region is a seismically active zone due to its location at the intersection of several tectonic plates. While deep-seated tremors are frequently recorded in the basin, they are often not felt on land in Baku or other coastal regions of Azerbaijan. The Republican Seismic Survey Center continues to monitor the situation to ensure public safety and provide real-time data on tectonic shifts in the South Caucasus and Caspian regions.
