On August 31, a meeting was held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, between President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of the Azerbaijani state extended his congratulations on the successful conduct of the first elections to the new parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. President Ilham Aliyev noted that this event serves as further evidence of the Kazakh people's support for the large-scale reforms being implemented in the country under the leadership of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
In response, the President of Kazakhstan expressed his gratitude for the congratulatory letter sent by the Azerbaijani leader and acknowledged the active participation of observers from Azerbaijan in the electoral process.
During the meeting, the leaders highlighted the successful development of strategic partnership and alliance relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. They emphasized the importance of high-level reciprocal visits and ongoing dialogue in deepening bilateral ties. The discussion also focused on transport and logistics, specifically the significance of the Middle Corridor, with an exchange of views on future cooperation prospects in this strategic direction.
The heads of state also discussed the upcoming summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which is scheduled to be held in Baku. The conversation concluded with a review of future contacts and other matters of mutual interest.
Background: Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan maintain strong bilateral relations rooted in shared cultural, linguistic, and historical ties. As key players in the Caspian region, both nations are central to the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, commonly known as the Middle Corridor, which connects Central Asia and China to Europe via the South Caucasus, bypassing traditional northern routes.
