A 23-year-old man has been detained in Baku for stealing a luxury vehicle from a car wash and subsequently causing a traffic accident while under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred in the Nizami district of the capital, where the suspect, identified as R. Rzayev, allegedly took a Range Rover without authorization during the night hours.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to the Operative Information Center-OMM, police officers conducted a targeted operation to identify and apprehend the suspect. Rzayev, who was an employee at the car wash facility, was taken into custody shortly after the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was intoxicated at the time he crashed the stolen vehicle.
In Azerbaijan, the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence are serious offenses regulated under the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offenses. The Ministry of Internal Affairs frequently conducts monitoring and awareness campaigns to prevent such incidents, particularly focusing on the security protocols of service-oriented businesses like car washes and parking lots. An investigation into the specific details of this case is currently ongoing to determine the full extent of the legal repercussions.
