A new metro station is scheduled to open in Baku this year as part of a major infrastructure overhaul in the capital. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Anar Rzayev, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA), announced the development during a round table discussion dedicated to the 2025 implementation of the "State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030."

According to Rzayev, the construction of the "Dernagul" electric depot has resumed following a long hiatus, in accordance with the State Program. Furthermore, excavation of shafts has commenced at two points for the line separation project near the "28 May" station. The chairman also noted that the area for the construction of a turnaround chamber after the "Icherisheher" station is fully prepared for building works, while reconstruction at the "Hazi Aslanov" station's dead-end tracks has reached the next phase. Rzayev emphasized that the State Program envisions the construction of 10 new metro stations, marking one of the most significant expansion phases in the history of the Baku metro.

The Baku Metro, which first opened in 1967, serves as the backbone of the capital's public transportation system. These modern expansion efforts are designed to alleviate traffic congestion in Azerbaijan's capital and enhance passenger comfort. One of the new stations is slated for commissioning in 2026, following accelerated construction at the B4 project site last year. These projects align with Azerbaijan's broader urban development strategy to modernize the capital's transit network and provide sustainable transport solutions for its growing population.
