Strong winds are expected to sweep across Baku, the Absheron peninsula, and several regions of Azerbaijan on May 1. According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, a yellow warning has been issued for the capital and surrounding areas, signaling potentially hazardous weather conditions.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the National Hydrometeorological Service expects south-westerly winds to intensify throughout the day. In Baku and the Absheron peninsula, as well as in the districts of Quba, Qusar, Khachmaz, Khizi, Shabran, and Siyazan, wind speeds are projected to reach between 13.9 and 20.7 meters per second, in accordance with the yellow weather alert.
Such weather warnings are frequent in the Absheron peninsula, a region historically characterized by its high wind activity. A yellow warning indicates that while the weather does not pose an immediate threat to the entire population, it is potentially dangerous for certain social and economic activities. Residents in Azerbaijan are advised to exercise caution, particularly when near tall trees, temporary structures, and power lines during periods of high wind velocity.
