Urgent restoration work has commenced following the partial collapse of the historic fortress walls in Icherisheher. The Administration of the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve is implementing immediate conservation measures to ensure the monument's stability and prevent further deformation in the capital of Azerbaijan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, a detailed technical and engineering expertise assessment will be conducted following initial stabilization efforts. Based on the results of this expertise, a scientifically grounded restoration of the damaged section of the fortress wall will be ensured. The administration noted that the collapse occurred at the intersection of towers 13 and 14, an area that had not previously undergone restoration. Officials identified continuous atmospheric precipitation, high humidity, and natural erosion processes observed in recent days as the primary causes of the incident.
Highly qualified specialists with international experience have been deployed to the site. This professional group has previously participated in the restoration of major historical monuments such as the Maiden Tower, the Double Fortress Gates, and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. The primary objective is to ensure the long-term durability of the monument in accordance with international standards while preserving its historical authenticity.
