The activities of the "Sahar" television channel and the "Mehr" news agency, as well as their representatives, have been declared illegal within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this decision was formally announced in a statement released by the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan.
"Taking into account the requirements of the relevant legislation and the principle of reciprocity, the activities of media entities that operate against the national interests of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and conduct propaganda against the country's sovereignty, constitutional order, territorial integrity, and national security—specifically the 'Sahar' television channel and the 'Mehr' news agency, along with their representatives—are considered illegal within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan," the statement read.
The agency further called upon all media outlets and journalists operating in Azerbaijan to refrain from cooperating with the aforementioned media entities and their affiliates. The statement emphasized that international cooperation in the media sector must be conducted solely on the basis of mutual respect and the professional independence of journalists.
This move follows a period of heightened scrutiny regarding foreign media influence in Azerbaijan. The Media Development Agency serves as the primary regulatory body overseeing the media landscape in the country, ensuring that all journalistic activities align with national legislation and the protection of state interests.
