In Azerbaijan, 1,044 individuals, including 13 foreign nationals, were held accountable for illicit drug trafficking during the period of January-March 2026.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Permanent Working Group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking released these figures as part of its quarterly assessment. According to the official statement, law enforcement agencies seized a total of 112 kg 789.853 grams of various narcotics and 17 units of psychotropic substances from the 13 detained foreign citizens.
The report further detailed that law enforcement authorities uncovered 44 specific cases related to the smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances into the territory of Azerbaijan. In connection with these smuggling operations, a total weight of 759 kg 474.815 grams of narcotics was successfully removed from illegal circulation.
The Republic of Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its domestic and international efforts to combat the global drug problem. As a transit point between Europe and Asia, the country maintains a rigorous border control system and collaborates with international partners to disrupt smuggling routes. The State Commission regularly monitors these trends to enhance the effectiveness of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other relevant bodies in safeguarding public health and national security.
