A five-day public holiday is set to begin in Azerbaijan tomorrow in connection with Independence Day and Eid al-Adha (Qurban Bayram).

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on May 27 and 28 this year. Since Independence Day on May 28 coincides with the religious holiday, May 29 has been declared a non-working day as well. Combined with the weekend on May 30-31, citizens in Azerbaijan will enjoy five consecutive non-working days.

Independence Day, celebrated on May 28, honors the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) in 1918, which was the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world. Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar, is traditionally marked in Azerbaijan with charity, community gatherings, and prayers, reflecting the country's rich cultural and religious heritage.
