On May 26, another group of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) returned to the Khojaly district of Azerbaijan, marking the next phase of the Great Return program. A total of nine families, comprising 29 people, resettled in five villages of the district, where they were presented with the keys to their newly built and restored homes.
The Public Relations Department of the Restoration, Construction, and Management Service in Khankendi City, Aghdara, and Khojaly Districts told the Operative Information Center-OMM that the resettlement covered several residential areas. Specifically, two families (nine people) relocated to Khanabad, two families (four people) to Badara, one family (one person) to Ballica, one family (three people) to Tazabina, and three families (12 people) to Khanyurdu.
The returning residents have settled in fully restored houses equipped with modern infrastructure. The resettlement is part of Azerbaijan's state-led "Great Return" program, which aims to repatriate Azerbaijani IDPs to their ancestral lands in the liberated Garabagh and East Zangezur regions. Following the liberation of these territories, the Azerbaijani government has launched massive reconstruction projects, building modern residential complexes, schools, and hospitals, while restoring critical infrastructure to ensure sustainable living conditions for the returning population.
