Azerbaijan seizes narcotics worth 111 million manats

During the period from January to May, Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies removed narcotics and psychotropic substances with a total estimated value of 111 million 793 thousand manats from illegal circulation. The total weight of the seized substances amounted to 4 tons, 263.1 kilograms.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this data was released by the Permanent Working Group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and Illegal Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs.

The report specifies that the seized contraband included 3 tons, 664 kilograms of marijuana, 212.5 kilograms of heroin, 88.1 kilograms of opium, 214.2 kilograms of hashish, and 76.3 kilograms of various psychotropic substances. Additionally, authorities confiscated 4,486 methadone pills, 3,660 cannabis plants, and 29 psychotropic pills.

Azerbaijan maintains a strict policy against drug trafficking, viewing it as a significant threat to national security and public health. The State Commission on Combating Drug Addiction coordinates inter-agency efforts, involving the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Customs Committee, to intercept smuggling routes and dismantle criminal networks operating within the country.
