A tragic helicopter crash in Argentina's San Juan province has claimed the lives of seven people, according to reports.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that a Bell 412 helicopter crashed within the territory of the Ischigualasto Provincial Park.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation. Authorities are currently working to determine whether the crash was caused by technical failure or adverse weather conditions.
San Juan Governor Marcelo Orrego confirmed the incident on his social media account, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims. He stated that state agencies would provide all necessary support to the affected families.
According to preliminary reports, the victims included high-ranking government and security officials. Among those identified are Carlos Heredia, head of the San Juan Civil Defense Department; German Videla, deputy chief of the Provincial Police; and representatives from the Fire Department, Ruben Castro and Jorge Carbajal.
Rescue teams and investigators are currently operating at the crash site to secure the area and recover evidence. The Ischigualasto Provincial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unique geological formations, is a frequent destination for official visits, which often require air transport due to the rugged terrain of the region.
