The United States has paid approximately $160 million toward its outstanding debt to the United Nations (UN), which currently exceeds $4 billion. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this information was confirmed by an official representative of the UN.

The payment coincided with the inaugural meeting of the "Board of Peace" initiative led by US President Donald Trump. According to a statement from the UN official, the funds amounting to roughly $160 million were received last week as a partial settlement of past arrears for the organization's regular budget. During the opening of the meeting, US President Donald Trump emphasized that Washington would provide financial assistance to strengthen the UN.

While the United States remains the largest contributor to the UN budget, the administration of US President Donald Trump has previously withheld mandatory payments to the regular and peacekeeping budgets and significantly reduced voluntary funding to various agencies. As of early February, Washington owes $2.19 billion to the UN's regular budget, accounting for more than 95% of the total global debt owed by member states. Additionally, debts of $2.4 billion for peacekeeping missions and $43.6 million for international tribunals remain outstanding.

US President Donald Trump stated that the UN possesses great potential that has not yet been fully utilized. He further announced that members of the "Board of Peace" would allocate more than $5 billion for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The United Nations, established in 1945, relies on assessed contributions from its 193 member states to fund its core operations and peacekeeping efforts worldwide, with the US traditionally bearing the largest financial share of the organization's administrative costs.
