The United Nations (UN) has announced it is awaiting the payment of approximately $4 billion in outstanding dues from the United States to sustain its global operations.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and US Permanent Representative Mike Waltz have been engaged in ongoing discussions regarding the settlement of these arrears.

Dujarric noted that the UN's financial department is also holding meetings with US officials to determine the timing and specific amounts of the upcoming payments. "We are waiting to see when and in what amount the payments will be made," the spokesperson added.

The US Permanent Mission to the UN indicated that the administration of US President Donald Trump plans to make an advance payment for a portion of the debt in the coming weeks, though the final figure remains under review.

UN officials report that the United States currently owes roughly $2.2 billion to the UN's regular budget and approximately $1.8 billion to the budget for peacekeeping operations. Last week, Secretary-General Guterres issued a formal warning to member states, noting that the UN's regular budget could be completely exhausted by July if sufficient contributions are not received.

As the largest financial contributor to the international body, the United States' funding levels significantly impact the UN's ability to maintain global humanitarian missions, administrative functions, and security operations. The potential budget shortfall comes at a time of heightened global demand for UN mediation and peacekeeping efforts in various conflict zones.
