US officials are currently evaluating new security and payment mechanisms for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from Politico, the White House is actively exploring various options aimed at encouraging shipowners to resume using this critical maritime route.

One of the primary plans under discussion involves granting vessels the right to expedited and secure passage in exchange for an additional fee. As part of this initiative, the option of having commercial vessels escorted by US naval ships while traversing the strait is also being considered.

This initiative is designed to restore confidence among shipping companies and stabilize logistics flows amidst ongoing regional tensions. The matter reportedly holds a significant place in the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between the United States and Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital chokepoint for global energy supplies, with a significant portion of the world's oil production passing through its narrow waters. US President Donald Trump has consistently emphasized the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in international waters. US intelligence agencies have previously assessed that Iran possesses the capability to disrupt or close the strait, a threat that has prompted Washington to bolster its military presence and oversight in the region to ensure global energy security.
