Ukraine could export several billion dollars worth of military equipment and services to foreign markets this year as the country expands its defense industrial base.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that David Aloyan, Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, shared these projections in an exclusive interview with Reuters.
According to Aloyan, the state commission responsible for export licenses during the wartime period has already approved the majority of 40 applications submitted by defense industry manufacturers. These applications encompass military hardware, spare parts, components, and related technical services.
"Taking into account finished products, spare parts, and services that can be provided, we are talking about several billion dollars," he noted.
The Ukrainian official emphasized that the country's military export potential is significantly higher than pre-war levels. However, meeting domestic military requirements remains the absolute priority for the government. In the export process, primary preference will be given to Ukraine's closest allies.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the first Ukrainian UAVs produced in Germany are expected to be delivered by early 2026. He also highlighted that issues regarding joint production and exports would be discussed within the framework of the Munich Security Conference. Plans are in place to open 10 weapons export hubs across Europe by the end of 2026.
Currently, more than 1,000 military equipment manufacturers operate in Ukraine, the majority of which are private companies established after the start of the full-scale conflict. According to data from the Kyiv School of Economics, Ukraine's defense industry potential exceeds $55 billion, with this figure expected to grow further by 2028.
The revitalization of Ukraine's defense sector marks a strategic shift toward economic self-sufficiency and integration into the global security architecture. By transitioning from a recipient of aid to a supplier of battle-tested technology, Ukraine aims to strengthen its strategic partnerships while bolstering its national economy through high-tech industrial growth.
