A powerful 6.2-magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea, according to reports from international monitoring agencies.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) detected the tremors at 10:21 local time. The earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 78 kilometers below the seabed.

There have been no immediate official reports of casualties or significant infrastructure damage following the event. Local authorities and seismic monitors indicate that seismic activity in the region remains ongoing, though no tsunami warnings were issued immediately following the quake.

Papua New Guinea is situated on the "Ring of Fire," an arc of seismic faults around the Pacific Ocean where much of the world's earthquake and volcanic activity occurs. The country frequently experiences high-magnitude tremors due to its location at the boundary of several tectonic plates, necessitating constant monitoring by regional seismic centers to mitigate potential risks to coastal communities.
