An Azerbaijani citizen, identified as 53-year-old N.S., who was sentenced to 43 years, three months, and 10 days in prison for various serious crimes, has been detained in Turkey's Igdir province. The individual was apprehended during a security inspection conducted on the Igdir-Nakhchivan highway.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Turkish media reports, N.S. was found guilty of human trafficking, as well as encouraging, forcing, and mediating prostitution. In addition to the lengthy prison sentence, the court imposed a judicial fine of 12,480 Turkish Liras (approximately 487 Azerbaijani manats). Following the completion of necessary legal and investigative procedures, the convict was transferred to a correctional facility to serve the remainder of the sentence.
The Igdir-Nakhchivan highway serves as a vital transport link between Turkey and Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Law enforcement agencies in the border region frequently conduct specialized operations and routine checks to combat cross-border crime, including smuggling and human trafficking. Cooperation between Azerbaijani and Turkish security services remains a key component in maintaining regional security and addressing the legal status of citizens involved in criminal activities across the border.
