Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ankara, stating that official Ankara is actively working to revive peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and bring the leaders of the conflicting parties together.

The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Turkish Presidential Administration, reports that Kyiv has also requested Türkiye, a NATO member, to host high-level meetings with Russia. Since the beginning of the conflict in 2022, Türkiye has maintained balanced relations with both countries, consistently pursuing mediation efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution.

During the discussions, President Erdogan emphasized that European NATO allies must assume greater responsibility in the field of security. He also held a telephone conversation with German leader Friedrich Merz, focusing on the negative impact of global tensions, including conflicts in the Middle East, on European stability. Türkiye continues to play a pivotal role in regional diplomacy, having previously facilitated significant agreements such as the Black Sea Grain Initiative and hosting early-stage peace talks in Istanbul.

Official Ankara warned that the global damage will continue to rise unless major powers demonstrate a more peace-oriented approach. Türkiye's proactive stance in diplomatic forums remains centered on ensuring regional peace and mitigating the broader consequences of the ongoing war.
