Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has issued a statement regarding the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, urging both parties to secure an immediate ceasefire and return to the negotiating table.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Turkish media, that diplomatic efforts are intensifying to prevent a wider conflict.
Fidan stated that there is ongoing work on a draft agreement between the two nations, suggesting that the parties are close to reaching a consensus. The minister noted that while Turkey remains in constant contact with all stakeholders, the recent exchange of reciprocal attacks poses a significant risk of further escalation.
"This is a matter of genuine concern for us. Our recommendation to the parties is to cease reciprocal attacks and fire, return to the negotiating table, and finalize the text they are close to agreeing upon. Our efforts are focused in this direction," Fidan emphasized.
The Turkish Foreign Minister stressed that the expansion of the conflict and the heightening of tensions would benefit no one, underscoring the necessity of a diplomatic solution. "Although it may be difficult and exhausting, the goal must be to bring the negotiations to a final stage. This is our recommendation," he added.
Turkey has historically positioned itself as a key mediator in regional conflicts, leveraging its strategic location and diplomatic ties with both Western powers and regional actors like Iran. Ankara's recent diplomatic push reflects broader international concerns that a direct confrontation between Washington and Tehran could destabilize the Middle East, impacting global energy markets and regional security architectures.
