The Japan Self-Defense Forces and the US Marine Corps have launched the "Resolute Dragon" joint field training exercises, aimed at enhancing the defense of island territories. The drills, which commenced recently, are designed to test interoperability and tactical coordination between the two allied forces.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the "Japan Today" publication, the exercises are taking place on the island of Kyushu in southwestern Japan and in the Okinawa prefecture, with operations scheduled to continue until June 30.

Lieutenant General Seiji Toriumi, commander of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force's Western Army, stated at the opening ceremony that demonstrating robust defense capabilities is essential for maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The maneuvers include the deployment of advanced military hardware, such as "Type 10" main battle tanks, to simulate complex defensive scenarios.

These exercises occur against the backdrop of ongoing territorial disputes between Japan and China regarding the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea. The "Resolute Dragon" series has become a critical component of the US-Japan security alliance, reflecting the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific theater. As regional security dynamics evolve, such joint drills serve as a deterrent and a demonstration of the enduring commitment of the US and Japan to regional stability.
