The social media platform TikTok has announced plans to lay off hundreds of content moderators as part of a strategic shift toward utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for trust and safety operations.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the company intends to reduce its workforce in Ireland by approximately 300 positions.

While the initial focus is on the Irish office, reports indicate that teams in other countries will also be affected by the restructuring, though the specific regions impacted have not yet been fully disclosed.

TikTok's content moderators are responsible for identifying and removing dangerous or harmful content from the platform. Because the review process is organized by language rather than geographic region, these layoffs are expected to have a global impact on the platform's user base.

Company officials stated that this decision is part of a broader initiative to restructure their global operations model for trust and safety, aligning it with the latest technological advancements in AI. The move reflects a growing industry trend where major tech companies are increasingly relying on automated systems to manage the massive volume of user-generated content, aiming for greater efficiency and faster response times in content moderation.
