Taiwan has signed arms supply contracts with the United States totaling more than $6.6 billion

Operative Information Center-OMM, citing "Focus Taiwan," reports that the Taiwanese authorities have signed six military supply agreements with the US with a total value exceeding 208.7 billion Taiwan dollars (approximately 6.6 billion US dollars).

The contracts were reportedly finalized in April 2026. The largest single agreement, valued at 123.5 billion NT dollars (approximately $3.9 billion), involves the acquisition of HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems. The defense package also includes M109A7 "Paladin" self-propelled howitzers worth 73.89 billion NT dollars (about $2.3 billion) and an allocation of 5.32 billion NT dollars ($168 million) for the expansion of the ground forces' missile arsenal.

The remaining three contracts cover the supply of missiles for the navy, the joint production of large-caliber ammunition, and consulting services for an integrated air defense system. This follows a previous move on December 18, 2025, when the US approved an $11 billion arms sale to the island. Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, such defense cooperation has remained a cornerstone of regional security policy. These developments are closely monitored globally as they influence the complex geopolitical dynamics between Washington and Beijing, often leading to increased diplomatic tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
