An anti-personnel landmine explosion has occurred in the territory of Sugovushan village in the Aghdara district, resulting in civilian injury.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, a citizen identified as Mahir Abdulla oglu Maharramov was injured after stepping on a mine while gathering wild asparagus in the area.
A joint statement issued by the Press Services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General's Office, and the Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) confirmed that Maharramov, born in 1982 and a resident of Hajiqarvand village, sustained a right leg injury. The incident took place on the former line of contact in an area not yet cleared of mines. An investigation is currently being conducted by the Tartar District Prosecutor's Office.
The three state agencies have once again urged citizens to strictly adhere to safety regulations, pay close attention to mine hazard signs, avoid entering unfamiliar territories, and refrain from trespassing into fenced-off zones. Since the end of the Second Garabagh War in 2020, the massive contamination of liberated territories with explosives has led to 421 Azerbaijani mine victims, 72 of whom have lost their lives.
Azerbaijan remains one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world. Following the 2020 conflict, the government has launched large-scale demining operations to ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands. However, the presence of unrecorded minefields continues to pose a significant threat to human life and regional development, necessitating ongoing international support and public vigilance.
