A strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake has struck the Hawaiian Islands, causing tremors across the region.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the United States Geological Survey (USGS), that the epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 6 kilometers southeast of the Honaunau-Napoopoo area. The tremor originated at a depth of just over 16 kilometers.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant infrastructural damage following the seismic event. Additionally, authorities confirmed that no tsunami warning has been issued for the coastal areas.
The Hawaiian Islands are located in a highly active seismic zone, primarily driven by volcanic processes. The region frequently experiences earthquakes of varying magnitudes, particularly around the Big Island, where active volcanoes such as Kilauea and Mauna Loa are situated.
