An armed incident has been recorded in the service area of the "Goytapa" border detachment of the Border Troops of the State Border Service (SBS). Four unidentified individuals attempted to violate the state border, moving from Iran in the direction of Azerbaijan.
The Operative Information Center-OMM was informed of the incident by the State Border Service. According to the report, the border outpost was immediately alerted with the "To Arms" command, and necessary preventive measures were taken in the area.
The border patrol issued a "Stop" order and fired warning shots into the air. However, the border violators disobeyed the command and opened fire, showing armed resistance and attempting to endanger the lives of the border guards. Taking advantage of the darkness and the forested terrain, the suspects abandoned their packages and fled back across the border.
As a result of search operations conducted jointly with employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 33 kilograms and 900 grams of narcotics packed in three separate bundles, along with other material evidence, were discovered and seized at the scene.
The opposite side has been informed about the incident, and operational-investigative measures are currently underway to determine the facts. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Azerbaijani law enforcement in securing the southern borders against transnational drug trafficking. Azerbaijan remains a key partner in international efforts to combat the flow of illegal substances along the so-called Balkan and Caspian routes, frequently conducting joint operations between the MIA and the State Border Service to intercept large-scale smuggling attempts originating from the region.
