Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, currently on an official visit to Ukraine, held an expanded meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andriy Sybiha. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan announced the details of the discussions via its official "X" account.
The ministers reviewed the implementation status of agreements reached between the heads of state following the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Azerbaijan. The discussions covered the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, encompassing trade, energy, investment, transport, humanitarian cooperation, and regional and international security issues.
Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining high-level contacts, political consultations, and the active operation of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the Business Council to expand bilateral ties. Minister Bayramov reiterated the importance of ending military operations as soon as possible and resolving the conflict through diplomatic means, in strict adherence to international law. He further reaffirmed Azerbaijan's consistent support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
Minister Sybiha expressed deep condolences regarding the casualties among Azerbaijani citizens resulting from military operations in the Black and Azov Seas, extending sympathies to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. The meeting also highlighted Azerbaijan's provision of over 50 million USD in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, its reconstruction projects in the city of Irpin, and support for rehabilitation programs for Ukrainian children.
Minister Bayramov also briefed his counterpart on the current situation in the South Caucasus, as well as the ongoing restoration and reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
Following the meeting, Minister Bayramov described the discussions as productive for the development of the strategic partnership between the two nations. In a post on "X", he stated: "We held productive talks on strengthening the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, with a particular focus on expanding cooperation in political, economic, energy, transport, and humanitarian spheres."
Azerbaijan and Ukraine have maintained a long-standing relationship characterized by mutual respect and strategic cooperation. This partnership is historically rooted in economic ties, particularly in the energy and transport sectors, and has been further solidified by Azerbaijan's significant humanitarian contributions to Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict.
