Major General Ebrahim Jabbari of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has made a significant statement regarding recent strikes conducted against United States and Israeli targets.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Reuters, reports that the general stated Tehran has not yet deployed its strategic weaponry in the ongoing escalations.
Jabbari noted that in current operations, only "missiles made from scrap metal" have been utilized. However, he emphasized that the Iranian military will deploy modern weapons that "no one expects" in the near future.
The statement follows reports that Israel launched "preventive" strikes against Iran on February 28. The New York Times reported that the United States also participated in these operations. According to Al Jazeera, the primary objective of these attacks was to weaken the security infrastructure of the Islamic Republic.
In response, Iran targeted Israeli territory and US military bases in the Middle East, including those located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar. IRGC officials have declared that retaliatory measures will continue until the adversary is fully defeated.
The IRGC, a branch of the Iranian Armed Forces founded after the 1979 Revolution, operates independently of the regular army and possesses its own ground, naval, and air forces. It is responsible for Iran's ballistic missile program and exerts significant influence over the country's regional foreign policy and internal security. The current escalation marks a period of heightened tension in the Middle East, involving direct military confrontations between regional powers and US President Donald Trump's administration.
