Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have discussed arrangements for an urgent meeting of the three countries’ chiefs of staff to consider ways to support Saudi Arabia under the Mecca defense agreement, the Saudi Gazette reported.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Ishaq Dar and Hakan Fidan held consultations at the headquarters of Saudi Arabia’s permanent mission to the United Nations in New York.
The ministers reviewed preparations for the chiefs of staff meeting, which will examine mechanisms for supporting Saudi Arabia in line with the commitments of the defense pact.
Ministers condemn attacks on Saudi Arabia
The Mecca agreement states that an attack against one of its parties constitutes an attack against all parties.
During their meeting, the ministers “strongly condemned” attacks seeking to target Mecca, as well as civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
They also discussed the latest regional developments and stressed the importance of upholding international law, good-neighborly relations, mutual respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
Call for maritime security and regional stability
The ministers underlined the need to ensure the security and freedom of maritime navigation.
They reaffirmed their commitment to working toward sustainable peace and stability in the region, supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions and promoting peaceful solutions to ongoing crises.
