Two days of negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations, mediated by the United States, have concluded in Geneva. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that while the discussions were difficult, certain progress was achieved on the military front.

In a statement following the delegation's report, Zelensky noted that the talks were conducted in two directions: military and political. He described the military discussions as constructive, stating: “The military officials understand how a ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities can be monitored if there is political will.” The President also emphasized that the American side would participate in any monitoring mechanism established.

Regarding political issues, the Ukrainian leader described them as more complex, noting that the positions of the parties remain divergent. Zelensky also posted on the "X" platform, accusing Russia of prolonging the process while expressing gratitude to the U.S. side for their patience and attention to detail. Russia's chief negotiator, Kremlin official Vladimir Medinsky, characterized the meetings as "difficult but business-like," adding that talks would resume soon. Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian delegation, declared that the primary goal remains achieving a “just and lasting peace.”

The Geneva talks represent a significant diplomatic effort to mitigate the ongoing conflict, which is approaching its fourth anniversary. Historically, Geneva has served as a neutral ground for high-stakes international diplomacy and conflict resolution. These latest discussions, held under the mediation of US President Donald Trump's administration, highlight the intensified international pressure to establish a functional monitoring framework for a potential ceasefire in the region.
