Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has emphasized the expansion of strategic partnership relations during his official visit to Mozambique.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lavrov visited Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, as part of his ongoing diplomatic tour of Africa.

During the visit, Lavrov was received by Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and subsequently held expanded-format talks with the country's Foreign Minister, Manuela dos Santos Lukas.

Speaking at a joint press conference following the meetings, Lavrov highlighted the importance of further developing strategic ties with Mozambique. He stated that Russia continues to support Mozambique, particularly in the country's efforts to combat terrorism in its northern regions.

"We are providing support to Mozambique in various areas, including the training of military personnel, as well as the supply of necessary weapons and military technologies," Lavrov stated.

The Russian Foreign Minister also addressed the conflict in Ukraine, criticizing the position of Western countries regarding peace negotiations. According to Lavrov, while Western nations claim to be open to dialogue, they are effectively speaking the language of ultimatums toward Russia. He further alleged that agreements reached in 2014, 2015, 2019, and 2022 were violated by the West, asserting that Russia no longer trusts Western commitments to a negotiated settlement.

Additionally, the minister commented on the situation surrounding Iran, noting that a resolution to the problem is only possible through a comprehensive agreement that considers the interests of all parties involved, including Iran, the United States, regional nations, and other states affected by the global economic impact of the current tensions.

Russia has been actively seeking to strengthen its diplomatic and economic footprint in Africa, viewing the continent as a key partner in its efforts to build a multipolar world order and counter Western geopolitical influence.
