Russia and Ukraine have carried out another prisoner exchange, with both sides returning 10 servicemen each, totaling 20 individuals exchanged.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the information was confirmed by Yana Lantratova, the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights. It was reported that the exchange process took place on the territory of Belarus.
Sources indicate that discussions between Moscow and Kyiv regarding larger-scale prisoner swaps are ongoing. Since the conflict began in February 2022, thousands of military personnel have been returned home through various exchange agreements. Notably, an agreement reached in May, which saw each side exchange 1,000 individuals, was widely regarded as one of the most significant outcomes of peace negotiations mediated by the United States.
Parallel to these humanitarian efforts, military clashes along the front lines have intensified. Recent reports indicate that Russian forces launched ballistic missile strikes on an industrial facility in the Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, resulting in two injuries. Simultaneously, air raid sirens sounded in Kyiv, followed by reports of explosions. In response, the Ukrainian side announced that it had struck an oil refinery belonging to the Lukoil company located in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region.
Prisoner exchanges remain a critical, albeit sporadic, aspect of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, serving as a rare channel for communication between the two warring parties amidst escalating hostilities.
