Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has departed for an official visit to Tehran, the capital of Iran.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the official spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed Al-Ansari, announced the visit via social media.
During his visit, Al Thani is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with senior Iranian officials. The discussions are expected to focus on de-escalating regional tensions and exploring avenues for diplomatic dialogue. A primary topic on the agenda is the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global energy supplies.
Qatar has consistently emphasized that diplomacy and dialogue remain the most effective pathways for resolving regional conflicts. In this context, the talks are expected to address the restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to return maritime transit conditions to the status quo that existed prior to February 28.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically important maritime passages, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It serves as a vital artery for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, making any instability in the region a matter of significant international concern and a frequent subject of diplomatic mediation by regional powers like Qatar.
