A new phase in economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and China has officially commenced.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, during the visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Shanghai, commercial agreements totaling more than $15 billion were signed. These agreements span key sectors, including artificial intelligence, digitalization, transportation, and industrial development.

In meetings with Chinese corporate leaders, President Tokayev characterized the bilateral cooperation as the beginning of a new "golden thirty years." He emphasized that Astana's primary objective extends beyond attracting foreign investment; it focuses on the development of new technologies, the establishment of scientific research centers, and the strengthening of industrial supply chains.

Data indicates that trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China reached $49 billion last year, with Chinese investments in the country exceeding $30 billion. Currently, more than 8,500 companies operating with Chinese capital are active in Kazakhstan.

A central pillar of this renewed partnership will be artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure. Chinese firms are expected to participate in the development of data centers, "smart city" initiatives, and digital logistics projects.

Furthermore, an agreement was reached regarding the construction of a multifunctional complex at the Kuryk port on the Caspian Sea. The project involves an initial investment of $300 million, with total investments projected to reach $1.1 billion. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the complex expected to be operational by 2028. The facility is projected to have an annual capacity of 15 million tons, significantly contributing to the development of the Asia-Europe transport corridor.

This deepening of ties reflects the growing strategic importance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, which serves as a vital link connecting East Asia with Europe, bypassing traditional northern routes and enhancing regional connectivity.
