This operation is part of Azerbaijan's ongoing strategic efforts to secure its borders and prevent the transit of illegal substances through the country. As a key transit point between Asia and Europe, Azerbaijan maintains a rigorous stance against international drug trafficking, frequently conducting specialized operations to dismantle networks attempting to utilize the "Balkan route" or other regional corridors for smuggling activities.
