A special representative of the Russian President, Kirill Dmitriyev, has traveled to the United States to hold high-level meetings with the newly formed administration of US President Donald Trump.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the visit, noting the significance of establishing early contact with the new leadership in Washington.
Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the Russian representative is not engaged in direct negotiations regarding the resolution of the Ukraine conflict. According to the spokesperson, Dmitriyev's primary mission is to operate within the framework of an economic cooperation group with the United States. However, international news agency Reuters also confirmed that Dmitriyev met with members of the US President Donald Trump administration, suggesting that discussions likely touched upon broader geopolitical issues, including the situation in Ukraine and future prospects for bilateral economic ties.
The visit comes at a pivotal moment for international relations following the inauguration of US President Donald Trump in January 2025. Historically, Kirill Dmitriyev, who heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), has often served as a back-channel for high-stakes economic and political communication between Moscow and Washington. This engagement signals a potential shift in diplomatic dynamics as both nations navigate complex global challenges and seek to define the parameters of their future relationship under the current US administration.
