President Ilham Aliyev meets EU Commissioner Marta Kos in Davos

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, in Davos on January 21. The meeting served as a platform to discuss the strengthening of bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and the European Union across various strategic sectors.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, during the conversation, Marta Kos’s visit to Azerbaijan last year, including her trip to Garabagh and her previous meeting with the head of state, were recalled with satisfaction. Marta Kos expressed that the restoration and reconstruction work being carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan left a deep impression on her. The parties also exchanged views on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the advancement of the peace agenda. Furthermore, cooperation in energy, regional transport links, humanitarian demining, and other fields were discussed, with particular emphasis on Azerbaijan's significant contribution to Europe's energy security.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, an annual gathering of global political and business leaders aimed at shaping global, regional, and industry agendas. During the talks, Marta Kos noted that the European Union is ready to support Azerbaijan's activities in the field of humanitarian demining, as well as projects for the restoration of the railway line in Nakhchivan. Both sides emphasized the great prospects for further expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union in multiple areas of mutual interest.
