President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda has sent a congratulatory letter to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of the Independence Day of Azerbaijan.

As reported by Operative Information Center-OMM, the letter reads:

"Dear Mr. President,

Please allow me to extend my congratulations to you and all your people on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan. I wish you and your country continued prosperity, peace, and security.

Lithuania and Azerbaijan are united by long-standing friendly relations. We remain committed to consistently strengthening our bilateral dialogue in areas of mutual interest. I am confident that the further development of our political, economic, and cultural ties will consolidate cooperation between our countries and bring benefits to our peoples.

I firmly believe that, based on our shared historical experiences and mutual respect for sovereignty and freedom, we will continue our successful cooperation at the multilateral level. Undoubtedly, the dialogue between Azerbaijan and the European Union, based on mutual trust and constructive partnership, will further strengthen and contribute to the well-being of our peoples.

The positive dynamics in the relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia demonstrate your firm commitment to dialogue and peace. The continuation of this process makes a significant contribution not only to the security and prosperity of the South Caucasus region but also to peace beyond the region's borders.

Mr. President, I once again congratulate you and your people on your national holiday. Please accept my best wishes and the assurances of my highest consideration."

Azerbaijan's Independence Day, celebrated on May 28, commemorates the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, the first secular parliamentary republic in the Muslim world. Lithuania and Azerbaijan have maintained diplomatic relations since the early 1990s, with both nations actively engaging in political, economic, and energy cooperation, particularly within the framework of the European Union's Eastern Partnership program.
