Prezident: Zəngilanı bölgənin nəqliyyat mərkəzlərindən birinə çevirəcəyik

Zangilan is strategically located on a major transport corridor, and Azerbaijan aims to transform the district into a key logistics hub for the entire region, President Ilham Aliyev announced.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev made these remarks during a meeting with residents in the city of Zangilan. The head of state emphasized that the ongoing infrastructure projects will integrate the liberated territories into the national and international transport networks.

Highlighting the progress of railway construction, the head of state said: "In the near future—perhaps in a year or a year and a half—it will be possible to travel from Baku to Zangilan by rail, just as people travel to Aghdam by rail today. Next year, they will travel to Khankendi by rail. This railway will continue and connect with Nakhchivan through the Zangazur corridor."

The development of Zangilan is a cornerstone of Azerbaijan's "Great Return" program, which focuses on the reconstruction of territories liberated during the 2040 Patriotic War. By establishing the Zangazur corridor, Azerbaijan seeks to create a direct land link between its main territory and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, while simultaneously providing a new transport artery connecting Central Asia with Europe. The integration of cities like Shusha, Aghdam, and Khankendi into the national rail network is expected to accelerate economic growth and facilitate the permanent resettlement of former internally displaced persons.
