President Ilham Aliyev has officially approved a new agreement regarding the supply of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Georgia. This strategic document marks a significant step in deepening energy ties between the two neighboring nations.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to ratify the "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia on the supply of natural gas to Georgia."
Under the terms of the decree, the Ministry of Economy is tasked with ensuring the implementation of the agreement's provisions once it enters into force. Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is required to notify the Government of Georgia that the necessary domestic procedures for the agreement's activation have been completed. The agreement itself was originally signed in Baku on May 18, 2026.
This agreement underscores the long-standing energy partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia. Azerbaijan has historically been a critical supplier of natural gas to Georgia, playing a vital role in the country's energy security. By formalizing these supply arrangements, both nations aim to ensure stable energy flows, which are essential for regional economic stability and infrastructure development in the South Caucasus.
