The international community applied a selective approach toward Azerbaijan regarding the settlement of the conflict with Armenia, President Ilham Aliyev said.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state made these remarks during his speech at the opening ceremony of the XIII Global Baku Forum in Baku. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that for decades, the global response to the occupation of Azerbaijani territories lacked consistency and fairness.
"We suffered from a lack of sufficient attention from the international community and a selective approach by some international actors who were supposed to deal with the settlement of the conflict," the President stated. He noted that Azerbaijan faced a situation where UN Security Council resolutions demanding the immediate withdrawal of Armenian troops remained on paper for nearly 30 years.
"In our case, it took many years, almost 30 years, until we restored our sovereignty and territorial integrity. We did this in accordance with the UN Charter, specifically Article 51, which provides for the right of self-defense," President Ilham Aliyev added. He underlined that Azerbaijan eventually resolved the long-standing conflict independently, ensuring the implementation of international law through its own means.
The Global Baku Forum, organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, has become a major platform for world leaders, Nobel laureates, and prominent diplomats to discuss pressing global challenges. This year's forum continues the tradition of addressing security, peace, and the importance of upholding international law in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. The event highlights Azerbaijan's growing role as a mediator and a key player in regional stability and energy security.
