President Ilham Aliyev has extended his gratitude to US President Donald Trump for the decision to extend the waiver of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act. This legislative action allows for the continuation of US assistance to the government of Azerbaijan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Azerbaijani President shared this message through his official account on the X social media platform.
Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, enacted by the US Congress in 1992, originally prohibited direct US aid to the Azerbaijani government. Since 2002, US presidents have consistently utilized their authority to waive this provision on an annual basis, citing national security interests and the necessity of supporting Azerbaijan's efforts in counter-terrorism, border security, and energy cooperation. The waiver is widely viewed as a critical component in maintaining the strategic partnership between Baku and Washington.
