President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order to allocate more than 85 million manats to combat the hazardous effects of floods and mudflows across the country.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the funds are directed toward eliminating the consequences of natural disasters and strengthening preventive infrastructure. The document notes that heavy rainfall during March and April caused significant damage in Baku and various regions of Azerbaijan, impacting agriculture, residential buildings, and critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and power lines.
"Relevant state bodies have analyzed the current situation and implemented operational measures to eliminate the consequences. These efforts included draining flooded areas, ensuring the unobstructed passage of floodwaters, evacuating residents, and initiating the restoration of damaged infrastructure," the order states.
Under the decree, a total of 85,869,260 manats will be provided from the President's Reserve Fund as part of the 2026 state budget. The allocation includes 8.8 million manats for the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 1.4 million manats for the Baku City Executive Power, 21.4 million manats for the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, 39.1 million manats for the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads, and 15 million manats for Azerishig OJSC.
Azerbaijan frequently faces seasonal challenges related to floods and mudflows, particularly in mountainous and foothill regions. In recent years, the government has prioritized the modernization of water management systems and the reinforcement of riverbanks to mitigate the impact of climate change and extreme weather events. These strategic investments aim to protect the national economy and ensure the safety of citizens in vulnerable zones across the Republic of Azerbaijan.
