Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has stated that the escalating instability in the Persian Gulf region could have a significant impact on the global economy. Speaking to journalists, Peskov emphasized that the situation in the Middle East is a cause for concern, noting that the negative effects of regional tensions on global economic processes are inevitable.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Kremlin spokesperson remarked that while Russia's economic growth rate is currently not at the desired level, this is a broader issue affecting the international economic environment. He highlighted that the conflict in the Persian Gulf plays a significant role in the current complex global economic landscape.
Peskov added that Western Europe and several Asian nations are facing similar economic challenges. He stressed that Russia cannot be fully isolated from global economic processes and that the country's leadership continues to work toward addressing these existing problems.
The current geopolitical climate has been exacerbated by rising tensions between the United States and Iran, which entered a more acute phase on July 7. Reports indicate that overnight on July 12, US forces struck approximately 140 targets within Iranian territory, as well as near the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. During this recent period of escalation, it is reported that the US has struck over 300 targets, including Iranian missile and drone bases, naval facilities, and communication systems.
It should be noted that US President Donald Trump announced the breakdown of the ceasefire with Iran during the NATO summit in Ankara. In response, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, declared that the era of unilateral agreements has ended and threatened Washington with retaliatory measures.
